ABOUT THE STUDIO

Trace Design Studio is a residential interior design practice established in Miami, Florida in 2012. The practice by Renata Lessa Bastos is dedicated to creating spaces that go beyond aesthetics and function to provide a sense of well being; to create nurturing, feeling and sustainable interiors.

This design approach focuses on the particular context of each project, grasping an understanding of the client's needs on multiple levels and thoughtfully designing the elements and details of each space. Designs are then brought to life through a close collaboration with a network of talented manufacturers, contractors and vendors with whom the studio has built professional relationships for over a decade in the South Florida market.

Renata Lessa Bastos

Renata is an interior architectural designer originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She spent her formative years in South Florida and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Cultural Heritage Management and Museology from the University of Barcelona.
She approaches residential interior design projects through her foundation in architecture: with respect to the users of the space and the context of the project (the environment, culture, history, site, and typology) and through the observation of not only color, texture and form but also for the architectural qualities of the interior such as lighting and negative space.

Believing still in the power of design to positively influence the lives of individuals, she searches for ways to create interiors that bring a sense of harmony and wellness to the client, the community and the environment. Renata believes in making a client's home reflect their own sense of identity and to respond to their needs through a sensitivity for their lifestyle and daily rituals by incorporating principles of sustainable design and environmental psychology.

In parallel to her design practice at Trace, Renata is continuously developing meaningful ways to engage with design and interiors and to bring these insights to her projects. From studying the psychology of home, slow design, bio architecture, to the relationship between objects and identity, she is constantly seeking to expand her approach to design through not only aesthetic means but also through the study of psychology, anthropology and art history.
